Giant Trance, Reign and Faith for 2012

Giant Reign X

Giant Bikes have raided their road bikes for some important changes to their mountain bikes for 2012.

Their recently announced OverDrive 2 front end will be introduced into their 2012 mountain bikes. The off-road bikes will use the same head tube found on the 2011 range of mountain bikes but with a new tapered steering tube designed to work with 1¼ inch top and 1½ inch bottom bearing sizes.

Giant says this will give around 30 percent more torsional stiffness in the steering column than the original OverDrive system, which is slightly smaller. In turn, this aims to give sharper handling and improved cornering capabilities. New stems have been developed to work with these new designs.

Giant OverDrive 2 has been developed with major suspension manufacturers, including Fox Racing Shox and RockShox. It’s been included on a number of Giant 2012 bikes including cross-country & trail bikes and all mountain bikes.

Giant have stated that they have been able to stiffen the front-end without adding weight, a real boost to performance. This has also meant a noticeable improvement to overall handling.

There is a slight weight gain of 5g but we think the improved handling may be worth this minor sacrifice. The system will be found on select 2012 models including; XtC Composite, Anthem X 29er, Anthem X Advanced SL, Anthem X Advanced, Anthem X, Trance X Advanced SL, Trance X Advanced, Trance X, Reign X, Reign and Faith.
