Wirral Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Bikeathon

The 12th Annual Leukaemia Research Wirral Bikeathon will start at 9.30 am on Sunday 13th June 2010 in Arrowe Country Park, Upton, Birkenhead. Entry is £10 for adults and £5 for under 17s (£20 and £5 respectively on the day). There are also family tickets if booked in advance.

The Wirral Bikeathon is a fantastic cycling event for the whole family, giving everyone the opportunity to have a fun day out, enjoy some healthy exercise and raise money through sponsorship to support the vital work of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Leukaemia Research is the first, and still the only national charity solely devoted to research into the causes and treatment of leukaemia and related blood disorders in children and adults.

The 28 mile route follows a figure of eight through the spectacular Wirral peninsula with two sections each about 13 miles combining public highways and off-road along the scenic Wirral Way. Ideal for both advanced cyclists and beginners, participants can elect to ride either one or both sections. Everyone from 8 to 80 is invited to take part with those under 8 invited to join in on tag-a-longs or trailers.

The day itself has a real party atmosphere with over 80 marshals to cheer cyclists on and ensure safety and free light refreshments provided at feeding points along the route.

To date, this event has raised a total of £520,000 over 11 years for this great cause, and is aiming to raise much more in 2010.
