Cheap Electric Bikes : Best Electric Bikes Under £800

Cheap Electric Bikes UK

Electric Bikes or eBikes look and feel like any other type of bike, albeit with a little help from the electric motor at times. Types of electric bike include mountain bikes, hybrids and even foldable electric bikes, each with a rechargeable battery and power modes to suit the individual cyclist and specific terrain. The electric motor help to power the bike, providing you with power assisted pedalling when you need a little help, sometimes on a hill or incline, and sometimes when you are recovering from an illness or injury. The electric motor helps to make pedalling easier and thus makes cycling more fun. With an eBike pedal as normal but the addition of the motor means you get some assistance, which is particularly useful on hills and for those looking to build up their fitness levels. Our guide to how electric bikes can help with fitness covers this in more detail.

Electric Bikes have become very popular and in this article we look at the entry-level bikes, in particular cheap electric bikes and identify the best of the cheapest bikes under review. To ensure we focus on quality, we’ve excluded any bike with a low customer rating, and only those bikes with a sales history in the UK. We have also only reviewed bikes for adults, electric bikes in the style of a mountain bike, road bike or hybrid bike. As such, we have not included foldable electric bikes, electric scooters or bikes with conversion kits.

Gromio’s 27″ Long Range E-Bike: The Best Value Electric Bike on the Market?

Once in a while, we’re truly astounded by the looks of a bike, sometimes the features or the build quality, and occasionally by the price. It’s rare that it all comes together in one bike but that’s exactly what you get with the Gromio eBike.

Gromio eBike
Let’s start with how the bike looks. It’s sleek black paintwork and golden livery sets the Gromio apart from other eBikes and gives it an air of authority well above it’s price tag. Made in London, the Gromio is crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail, ensuring superior quality and durability. The high quality frame is made with high carbon steel, ensuring maximum strength and durability, and minimizing weight for an effortless ride.

At the heart of any eBike is it’s power, in the Gromio’s case, a 36v 10.4Ah battery, a long-lasting and high-capacity battery, allowing you to ride for longer periods of time with ease. With a fast charging time of just 3 hours, you can quickly recharge your bike and get back on the road, making this ideal for commuting. The motor is located at the rear hub, providing exceptional control and responsiveness, even on the steepest hills.

Gorgeous sleek looks, street smart features, high quality build and exceptionally good value

Unlike lesser eBikes, the Gromio features 5-speed modes, enabling you to customise your ride to match your preferred level of exertion, adaptable to your environment and to reach a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The bike is equipped with a 7-speed gear system, providing ultimate control and flexibility to ride in any terrain.

The Gromio isn’t just a good looking bike, it sits on two 27.5-inch mountain bike tyres, 2.125-inch wide to provide excellent stability and a smooth ride, making even the toughest terrain a breeze due to their size and grip. Having ridden the Gromio I can attest to the ride quality.

  • Sleek modern looks
  • Made in London
  • Long-lasting 250W, 36v 10.4Ah battery, fast charging in 3 hours
  • 5-speed modes, maximum speed 25 km/h
  • 7-speed gears

What makes the Gromio electric bike even more attractive, is the price. At just £669 at the time of publishing, this makes it by far the BEST value eBike in this review.

1. Hyuhome Electric Bike Review

The Hyuhome eBike is the cheapest electric bike in the UK and is also the best seller on Amazon. The Hyuhome bike has a customer rating of 4 stars and has been the number one electric bike on Amazon for quite some time.

The design is based on a standard hybrid or mountain bike and incorporates front suspension forks for added comfort over uneven terrain. The ergonomic design will ensure a comfortable ride, even over longer rides, and the anti-slip mountain bike tyres help to maintain control and safety on slippery road or trail surfaces. The bike is supplied with bright LED headlights to enable night-time cycling

Despite the Hyuhome being the cheapest electric bike in our review, it is by no means under-equipped. The large capacity 350W 36V electric motor delivers high speeds, where appropriate, and the powerful rechargeable 13Ah battery enables rides of up to 50 miles (80 km), across flat even roads and gradients up to 30 degrees. The battery can be charged on or off the bike frame, making it easy to charge in the home, garage or office in around 3-4 hours.

This electric bike is well-designed and has 3 cycling modes; pure electric mode, PAS mode and pure human riding mode, ie. no electric motor engaged. This allows you to adapt to various road conditions and riding styles as you begin to travel further distances with your new bike, engaging the electric motor when you need a little boost.

The Hyuhome Electric Bike has lockable front suspension forks, front and rear disc brakes design and 21 gears from leading bicycle component manufacturer, Shimano. It is available in a number of colours; blue, red, yellow and several battery power options; 8Ah, 10Ah, 13Ah.

2. Victagen Electric Bike Review

Part of the challenge with electric bikes is concealing the battery, or at least reducing its visibility, and the Victagen does a good job of this by integrating the battery within the bike frame. The battery in this model is what I’d consider entry-level at 8Ah but this does mean it’s lighter than more powerful options. Gears come from Shimano, which is always good to see and with a wheel size of 27.5-inch this bike will have a little more presence than those with 26-inch wheels. Customers rate this bike at 5 stars (at the time of writing) but only from a small handful of customers.

3. IC Electric Bike Review

If we had an award for best looking electric bike, this IC Electric would win by a long way. It’s beautiful sleek design looks very modern, almost iconic. The IC Electric Alfa bike model is aimed at cyclists looking for design, agility, simplicity and speed. Incorporating a smart system, aiding automation when required, without the need for mechanical change to enable smooth cycling. The IC Electric is lightweight, at just 17 kg, and features five-spoke 20-inch wheels and a 240W electric motor.

IC Electric Alfa Electric Bicycle, Silver, One Size
  • Gear shift: Smart Assistance, without adding mechanical changes.
  • Brakes: Front and rear disc, Mono suspension Zoom.
  • Front fork: Rigid, alloy aluminum.
  • Brakes: Front and rear disc,

4. Swifty Electric Bike Review

The Swifty electric bike has a lightweight aluminium frame with 27.5-inch wheels and all terrain tyres for added grip and stability. The Panasonic 36V 9.6Ah lithium-ion battery will deliver an average range of 30 miles but this will depend on a variety of factors, including speed, acceleration, terrain and other riding elements. Features include Shimano 7-speed gears and derailleur plus 3 assist modes, including walking mode which engages the electric motor from a standing start up to 5mph. Swifty provide a 2 year manufacturers warranty on battery, motor and componentry as standard but this excludes tyres and inner tubes. Bike assembly is straightforward but there is a dedicated support helpline if needed.

5. Bunao Electric Bike Review

The Bunao is supplied with a basic, but sufficient, 36V 8Ah battery that delivers 250W power via the brushless electric motor to the lightweight bike frame, enabling a range of around 25 miles in normal riding conditions. The rechargeable battery can be charged either on or off the bike frame for added convenience. The gear shifters and rear derailleur are simple and straightforward to use and the Bunao features 3 modes via the smart button controls. The bike has 21 gears, front and rear disc brakes and is ideal for everyday commuting or leisure cycling. The option to add a burst of speed with the throttle is ideal for when you need that extra power boost and added fun.

6. HSART Electric Bike Review

The HSART electric bike is a mirror image of the Hyuhome bike, so much so that the same images are used on Amazon. Specifications are also the same so the chance is that these are mass produced bikes, rebranded to suit different customers. This is standard practice in many markets (computers, televisions, cars) so there’s nothing untoward, just go for the Hyuhome bike at present as it’s cheaper. The specification for this HSART bike is listed below so you can compare it to the other bikes, and see the full spec.

7. Hiriyt Electric Bike Review

The design of the Hiriyt is very much the look and feel of a mountain bike, with the 36V 8Ah battery neatly tucked under the aluminium alloy frame. The front forks are made from strengthened carbon steel materials, encasing front suspension for added comfort. The lithium battery supports a range of around 15 miles (25km) in eBike mode and up to 30 miles (50km) in assisted mode. Other features include fast battery charging (4-6 hours), ergonomic handlebars, adjustable saddle height and anti-slip tyres. Other safety features include a bright LED headlamp and a horn, perfect for warning others and night riding.

8. Ancheer Electric Bike Review

The designers of the Ancheer bike have made a feature of the battery on this electric bike and I suspect it’s going to be a bit of a marmite moment, with some people hating it, and others not even noticing. The battery itself is a 36V 8Ah lithium-ion battery that’s used to deliver power to the 250W electric motor, which can be removed from the frame when recharging at home or in the office after your commute. Components include front and rear mechanical disc brakes, 21-speed gears for cycling on all gradients, a horn and bright LED lights for riding in low-light conditions or just for greater visibility. There are 3 assistance modes; eBike, assisted cycling, normal cycling.

9. Oppikle Electric Bike Review

As there are similarities between the Hyuhome and HSART bikes, the Oppikle bike looks very similar to the Hiriyt bike. Specifications are shown below and in the comparison table at the bottom of the page so you can compare models and specifications, and if like me, you think they are fundamentally the same bike, then you may just want to buy the bike based on price and customer reviews. Having said that, both score an almost perfect 5 stars and prices are very close.

How to Buy Cheap Electric Bikes

Electric Bikes have become increasingly popular in the UK, with more and more people choosing them as a more eco-friendly and efficient mode of transportation. However, they can be expensive, which can make it difficult for some people to afford them. In this buying guide, we will discuss some tips on how to buy cheap electric bikes in the UK.

Look for discounts and sales

One of the best ways to buy a cheap electric bike is to look for discounts and sales. Many bike shops and online retailers offer discounts on electric bikes, especially during the off-season. You can also keep an eye out for special holiday sales, such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which can provide significant savings.

Consider used electric bikes

Another option for buying a cheap electric bike is to consider buying a used bike. There are many websites and online marketplaces, such as eBay and Gumtree, where you can find used electric bikes at a fraction of the cost of a new bike. However, be sure to thoroughly inspect the bike before buying to ensure that it is in good condition and that all the components are working properly.

Shop around

When looking for a cheap electric bike, it’s important to shop around and compare prices. Don’t just buy the first bike you come across – take the time to research different brands and models, and compare prices from different retailers. This will help you find the best deal and ensure that you are getting a good quality bike for your money.

Consider older models

Another way to save money when buying an electric bike is to consider older models. While newer models may have more advanced features and technology, older models can still be reliable and efficient. Plus, they are often available at a lower cost than newer models.

Look for second-hand electric bike shops

In addition to online marketplaces, there are also second-hand electric bike shops where you can find used electric bikes at a discounted price. These shops often specialize in repairing and refurbishing electric bikes, so you can be sure that you are getting a bike that is in good condition. Plus, they may also offer warranties or guarantees, which can provide added peace of mind.

Consider financing options

If you can’t afford to buy an electric bike outright, consider financing options. Many bike shops and online retailers offer financing plans that allow you to pay for the bike in instalments over a period of time. While this may result in higher overall costs due to interest rates and fees, it can make it easier to afford a bike that you otherwise couldn’t.

Check out community groups and forums

Community groups and forums can also be a good resource for finding cheap electric bikes in the UK. You can often find bikes for sale from other members of the community who are upgrading to a new model or no longer need their current bike. Plus, you can get advice and recommendations from other electric bike owners, which can help you make an informed purchasing decision.

Consider DIY electric bike kits

Finally, if you’re handy and have some technical skills, you may be able to save money by building your own electric bike. There are many DIY electric bike kits available online, which include all the components you need to convert a regular bike into an electric bike. While this option may require more effort and expertise, it can result in significant cost savings.

In conclusion, buying a cheap electric bike in the UK is possible with some research and effort. By looking for discounts and sales, considering used bikes, shopping around, considering older models, looking for second-hand electric bike shops, considering financing options, checking out community groups and forums, and considering DIY electric bike kits, you can find a high-quality electric bike that fits your budget. Just be sure to do your research.
