Eskute Electric Bikes
Eskute have moved on somewhat since our first review of the Eskute Voyager and Wayfarer electric bikes. Eskute have now established themselves as providing a full range of electric bikes, built with care, quality and style, right across the range, which now includes hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, folding bikes and dedicated commuter bikes, all of which are of course electric bikes.

Our electric bike reviews include a off-road mountain bikes and the more sedate city commuter or hybrid bikes. In this review, we look at the Eskute mountain bike range, which includes the Netuno, Netuno Plus and Netuno Pro electric bikes. Eskute dispatch orders for UK customers from within the United Kingdom so delivery is usually within a few days. They are also available on Amazon, which we have found to be the best source of cheap prices. Amazon also have a great customer feedback program and so it’s easy to see customer reviews and what others see as the pros and cons.

Eskute Netuno Electric Mountain Bike Review
The Eskute Netuno electric mountain bike is quite a stylish option and doesn’t look unfamiliar to other mountain bikes. The key to spotting that it’s different is the nicely concealed electric bike battery on the downtube. Manufacturers, like Eskute, have improved significantly in recent years and these eBikes look almost like other bikes.
For those new to this type of bike, our Ultimate Guide to Electric Bikes offers insight to the Pros & Cons of electric bikes and how to get the best out of them..
As far as the Netuno bikes are concerned, which one is best? The answer, quite unsurprisingly is, it depends. If you are looking for the cheapest Netuno, then it’s the standard entry-level bike but our Editor’s Choice Award goes to the Netuno Plus, simply because it comes with a torque sensor rather than a speed sensor, but having said that, this doesn’t really justify the additional cost so we’d recommend going for the entry-level bike.

Eskute Electric Bikes or eBikes are bicycles which have a motor and battery attached, enabling the rider to go further and easier due to the power assisted pedalling. Here we take a look at the features and specifications of the entry-level Netuno eBike.
The Eskute Netuno Electric Mountain Bike is one of the cheapest electric bikes available and certainly one of the best at this low price
The Eskute Netuno is an entry-level bike, perfect for those on a limited budget. Both Eskute and Amazon present the Netuno as as an electric mountain bike but this is no steep gradient hill buster, it’s better suited to canal tow paths and gentle off-road riding.
Just because it isn’t a mountain bike, doesn’t mean it isn’t a good bike. The Netuno is rated 4.0 stars on Amazon and almost three-quarters (72%) of those who left a review, rated it 4 or 5 stars.
Budget bike also doesn’t mean cheap components. Eskute do offer this to customers as an entry-level bike and as such there are compromises, but then you do get the industry leading brand, Shimano, to provide the 7-speed groupset. As a city bike, you don’t need the larger teeth options on the cassette and so the 14-28T range is plenty.
Gear changes are straightforward with the help of the thumb shifter on the handlebars, as standard on Eskute bikes, and as mentioned, the 7-speed gears offer a broad enough range.
One thing we really like on the Netuno is the controller, easy-to-use with clear features, centrally positioned on the handlebars, although some users may find this a little too close to the rider but personally I didn’t mind. There are five assist levels but you may find yourself not using all of them.
The Netuno range all come with the same BAFANG 250w hub motor, which isn’t the biggest electric motor on the market (you can get 350w motors) and so some riders may find this somewhat under powered but for general cycling, it’ll work fine, just ensure you fine the right gear for the gradient and change early. The 250w motor still manages to get you to the UK maximum legal speed of 15 mph.
Eskute have partnered with Samsung on the battery, which at 14.5Ah is quite impressive for an entry-level electric bike. As you can see from the photos of the Netuno, the battery is concealed in the downtube, making it quite stylish. One note of caution, the harder you drive the motor, the quicker the battery will drain, so be mindful of this on the hills, especially if you’re going to rely on the pedal assistance for your cycle home.
The Netuno has 522Wh (watt hours), which comes from the 36v x 14.5Ah battery. Using the throttle gives a range of 35 km [22 miles] but using pedal assist gets this up to 60 km [40 miles], at a maximum speed of 15 mph but this will of course drain the battery and reduce the range, quite significantly. It’s unlikely that you’ll be riding at this top speed and so it might not be an issue for most riders.
The Eskute Netuno weighs 25 kg and has a maximum rider weight of 125 kg. It’s aimed at riders 5’2″ to 6’2″ and so the height and weight combination covers most men and women. Riders sit on chunky 2.1 inch tyres atop 27.5 inch wheels, making the Netuno a great all-round option at a good price.
The Netuno a great all-round option for riders of any size, weight and budget

Eskute Netuno Plus Electric Mountain Bike Review
The Eskute Netuno Plus looks pretty much like the entry-level Netuno bike, in fact, it’s as good as identical and the two bikes share pretty much everything, bar one component.
The Netuno Plus shares the same stylish looks, the same 250w motor, 45Nm torque and 36v 14.5Ah battery, and thus the same power, range and 7-8 hours charging time. Yet there are several hundred pounds between them.
The similarities don’t stop there, they also share the same front forks with 100mm travel, front and rear mechanical disc brakes with 160mm rotors and the same performance of top speed and 7-speed gears.

From what we can see, the primary difference between the basic Netuno and Netuno Plus comes down to the bike’s sensor. The Netuno has a speed sensor and the Netuno Plus has a torque sensor.
Torque sensors measure the amount of torque produced by the rider whereas a speed sensor use the bike’s speed. Torque-sensors are more expensive than speed-sensors and so tend not be be found on entry-level bikes like the standard Netuno.

Eskute Netuno Pro Electric Mountain Bike Review
The Eskute Netuno Pro is the top of the Netuno range and as such comes as a hefty price, almost double the price of the standard model, and so is the extra price worth it? In short, not in our opinion.
The 3 bikes share so much and it is therefore difficult to justify anything above the entry-level bike, which at the time of publishing is £999 (reduced from £1,099) vs £1,099 (reduced from £1,299) for the Netuno Plus [with torque sensor] and £1,499 for the Netuno Pro [with longer range].
All bikes in the range share the same design, have the same 250w BAFANG motor, 36v 14.5Ah battery with 522Wh, and thus the same power, range and performance.
The shared components also include the same front suspension forks with 100mm travel, front and rear mechanical disc brakes with 160mm rotors and the same performance of top speed. So how do they differ?
The Netuno has a speed sensor whereas the Netuno Plus & Pro bikes have a torque sensor, typically found on more expensive bikes. Thereafter, the Plus & Pro are the same bikes, other than the Pro version has greater torque, 65Nm vs 45Nm, and boasts 9-speed gears rather than 7-speed on the other two bikes. The Pro has a longer range of 80 km vs 65 km but we’re not sure how it achieves that as the motor, battery and weight of the bike are identical. Does this justify the additional cost, not sure it does.

The Netuno Pro comes equipped with a 250w electric motor that delivers 65Nm torque, ahead of the standard 45Nm on it’s siblings in the range. The fat 2.1-inch tyres astride the 27.5-inch wheels help you to tackle most off-road terrains with ease. The Netuno range is described as an electric mountain bike but it’s better suited to hills rather than mountains.
Available in the same blue or black options as the other bikes, this bike looks stylish and won’t be out of place along urban paths or suburban streets.
