Muc-Off go from caring and protecting bikes to caring and protecting cyclists with their range of Athlete Performance products.
As a cyclist, there is probably one brand’s products that we all have somewhere in the garage, shed or wherever we store our cycling stuff. Muc-Off has been helping cyclists clean, protect and lube for over 20 years.
Muc-Off bike cleaner and degreaser are the two must-have products that I always have to hand. They are just two of the 20 products in the cleaning range, with a further 20 to choose from in the protect and lube depts.
So having established themselves firmly in bike care and protection market, they’ve decided to care and protect cyclists with the launch of their Athlete Performance product range.
Athlete Performance Range
The product range consists of shaving products, skincare products, chamois cream and recovery aids. Prices are at the luxury end of the market, with shaving cream at £15.00 for a 250ml tube. This matches other luxury shaving creams and gels, such as the Clinique for Men shaving gel, although the Muc-Off shaving cream is twice the size (250ml vs 125ml).
The shaving range consists of Shaving Cream, a Shaving Brush and a combo gift pack, which at £40.00 is possibly out of reach of some people.
Chamois Cream is an essential aid for cyclists spending more than a few hours in the saddle. Prices are again at the luxury end, with a 100ml tube seeking £13.99 from punters, which compares to £12.99 for a 140ml tub of Assos Chamois Cream. Muc-Off have also added a 250ml pack (£20.00) and 10ml sachets, perfect as a travel pack.
The Muc-Off skincare & recovery range of products kicks-off with a general skin moisturising cream. It contains natural ingredients, like avocado oil and cocoa butter, plus SPF 15 skin protection against harmful UVB rays produced by the sun. The moisturiser is formulated to hydrate, calm and refresh. Other skincare products include;
- Amino Explosive Power Cream (£24): Amino Explosive Power Cream improves the availability of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, which helps to increase strength and energy. Arginine Amino’s are used to make nitric oxide in the body, which leads to an increased blood supply to the treated muscles, and in turn increased oxygen and nutrient levels strengthening the muscles and immune system. The benefit of using Amino acids in a cream is that you can feel them working almost instantly, they are being delivered into the bloodstream directly through the muscles rather than having to be ingested like tablets. Using a cream also allows you to target specific muscles, perfect for cyclists and runners.
- Amino Recovery Balm (£24): Amino Recovery Balm revives, reconditions and freshens your body whilst providing a gentle cooling sensation. The balm calms, relaxes and rejuvenates your body to help regeneration and boost energy levels using the amino acid Glutamine which is the most abundant amino acid in the muscle cells.
- Amino Ultra Endurance Cream (£24;): If you want to ensure your body is maximised for serious endurance then Muc-Off’s Amino Ultra Endurance Cream will condition your body to be ready for anything. During intense training and competition, waste products like lactic acid and ammoniac can build up and decrease your performance. Muscles are also naturally broken down during exercise and proteins, which are built from groups of amino acids, play a vital role in building and repairing muscles.
- Luxury Warm Up Cream (£15): Muc-Off Luxury Warm Up Cream will warm, strengthen and stimulate your body, to ensure you are in the best possible condition, ready to face whatever weather mother nature throws at you! This cream combines a mix of natural extracts and the Muc-Off heating system, which actively controls the warming temperature provided to your muscles. This primes the treated areas to ensure you are in an optimal condition before you start a training session or competition.
I haven’t used the Muc-Off products for long enough to give an extensive review so I’ll withhold judgement for a short while and will update this article in a few weeks.
