What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a prescription-only weekly injectable medication originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes. It works by mimicking two naturally occurring hormones; GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide), that help regulate blood sugar levels and control appetite.
Although Mounjaro is licensed in the UK (MHRA-approved) and US (FDA-approved) for diabetes management, Mounjaro is used extensively, and successfully, for its substantial weight loss benefits. In clinical trials, some patients lost up to 22.5% of their body weight, making it one of the most effective medical weight-loss treatments.
