Specialized Crux Review
The Crux family of cyclocross bikes from Specialized gives you the choice between carbon and alloy frame setups along with hard-wearing components and specially optimised geometry that is suitable for serious all-weather racing. For those who want to stay competitive against experienced rivals, this is the type of bike you should be looking to harness.
The Crux E5 has a Premium Aluminium canti frame which may be made of metal, but manages to replicate the kind of stiffness you would expect to find on a carbon alternative. A FACT carbon fork is featured up front and the AXIS 1.0 wheels are paired with Specialized Tracer Sport tyres which are suitable for both hard packed earth and looser surfaces alike.
Shimano Sora drivetrain components, an FSA Gossamer crankset and Tektro CR 720 brakes fill out this already respectable cycling package.
Specialized Crux Sport Carbon
The Crux Sport Carbon comes with a FACT 10r carbon frame with the same cyclocross-oriented race geometry that includes a tapered headtube and an impressively rigid bottom bracket to aid with acceleration.
The Tracer Sport tyres return, this time on AXIS 2.0 wheels, while a Shimano 105 drivetrain provides slick shifts and consistent precision.
Specialized Crux Sport E5 Disc
The Crux Sport E5 Disc opts for an E5 Premium Aluminium frame and carbon fork combination, along with an alloy BB30 crankset from SRAM with gearing that has been adjusted to suit cyclocross conditions.
The most significant inclusions on the spec sheet of this model are the SRAM hydraulic disc brakes with a 160mm rotor at the front and a 140mm unit at the rear. These are coupled with SRAM double-tap, 10-speed, integrated hydraulic brake system shifters.
AXIS 2.0 Disc wheels and Specialized Trace Sport tyres keep the bike on the straight and narrow or the wide and wobbly, depending on the circumstances at hand.
