The Trek 4900 provides a good balance between high-end performance and everyday usability. It will not be so specialised as to stick out like a sore thumb when you ride it in your local area but it is also not too soft to make it look out of place when racing up a rocky trail. It comes from a long line of capable mountain bikes and whilst it is not priced for the beginner’s market it should be a great intermediate ride.

Mountain bikes must be light and strong as this allows for speed and rough treatment across any surface, so the Trek 4900 has an aluminium frame and a Suntour fork with 100mm of travel. This will absorb the punishment doled out by rocky terrain and will also protect you if you happen to catch some air. This is a hardtail bike so there is no rear shock but this allows for a greater degree of control over how it handles and means that it will be able to pick up speed quickly, which is essential if you are thinking about competing in a race. Hydraulic Shimano disc brakes, Bontrager tyres and Wellgo pedals complete this package.
The Trek 4900 is a mountain bike that does not mess around when it comes to style. It is mostly black, from its rims to its grips, with flashes of green and some subtle decals making themselves known without screaming for attention, which is what you want from this type of cycle.
