Sur-Ron Electric Motorbikes

Following a recent test ride and review of the impressive range of Sur-Ron Electric Motorbikes, I’ve written quite extensively on the various models, features and specifications of the Light Bee electric bikes.

The Sur-Ron entry-level electric motorbikes consist of the road legal Light Bee L1E, the punchy 6kW Light Bee X and the youth orientated kids Light Bee S dirt bike. But what are the differences between these Light Bee bikes and which one should you buy? Let’s find out in detail but first a quick overview of the differences.

  • Light Bee L1E: The Light Bee L1E is the road legal version in the Light Bee range
  • Light Bee X: The Light Bee X version is the electric dirt bike of this small family
  • Light Bee S: The Light Bee S is firmly aimed at kids and teenagers but still a good motocross choice

What is the difference between the Light Bee L1E and Light Bee S Bikes?

The short answer is the Light Bee L1E is the road legal version of the Light Bee electric motorbike and the Light Bee S is the smaller version aimed at younger riders. The battle of siblings often brings intriguing comparisons, doesn’t it? On one side sits the tested favourite – the Sur-Ron Light Bee L1E – known for its robust capabilities amongst entry-level e-bikes. But how does it stack up against its newer kin, the sleeker Light Bee S?

  • Design: The first distinction is in their appearance; while they share familiar DNA, the S variant takes a more minimalist approach
  • Performance: Underneath their shells lies another contrast: The L1E caters primarily to street riding efficiency, whereas the Light Bee S leans toward enhanced off-road prowess
  • Usability: In terms of utility, there’s nuance too, the Light Bee L1E is predominantly a road bike and feels more at home on the streets while the S defies boundaries easily when faced with rugged landscapes
  • Weight: The Light Bee S is lighter than the Light Bee L1E at 40kg vs 50kg and also has a lower maximum weight load
  • Top Speed: The upper speed is lower on the S (30mph) against the L1E bike (45mph)
  • Power: As the Light Bee S is aimed at teenagers and children its get less power, 2.9kW vs 6kW for the L1E
  • Torque: There is also slightly less torque on the S bike (220Nm)
  • Wheel Size: The Light Bee S is a smaller bike and has a smaller wheel size of 17-inch vs the 19-inch on the L1E
  • Wheelbase: The S has a slightly short wheelbase but at 10mm would anyone notice?
  • Seat Height: You will however notice the lower seat height on the S at 760mm vs 880mm on the L1E
  • Range: The range on the S Bee is somewhat shorter at 65km against 100km on its bigger brother

Navigating these intricacies offers crucial insight into why one might be drawn towards one model over another based on individual needs and riding styles.
