Join the extreme Whinlatter Mountain Bike Challenge that is in March 2011 at Whinlatter in the Lake District. However, the exact dates of the challenge have yet to be released to the public.

The Whinlatter MTB Challenge is one of the most prestigious cycling challenge events in England. Every year, they arrange more than one challenge event and each year, the number of participates grows. This year, there were more than five hundred and fifty riders, up from 421 the previous year.

The Whinlatter MTB Challenge is organized in the Whinlatter forest area which has a magnificent view over land, lakes and mountains. However, the Whinlatter MTB Challenge is restricted mostly to the Northern Lake District near Keswick. The surrounding countryside gives spectacular views to the riders as well as making the event more challenging for them. The Whinlatter MTB Challenge is designed with Altura trail, fire road and bridleways and of course through the mountains and forest.

The Whinlatter Forest Park is the centre of the event and the starting point for most riders. The main trail is the Altura which was the place of the Whinlatter MTB Challenge this year. The best feature of the Altura is the mountain trails and along with this, you will see snow covered peaks in the far distance. The top zone of the trail is a hanging valley on the way to Whinlatter Pass. The place is not all about riding, this place is also a great place to visit for tourists with a café and gift shop. The starting section has a narrow slope which is a little difficult to ride with a rocky environment. At the end of this single track, there is a fire road which opens to an open hillside.

The road is full of adventure. The rider must be skilled enough to go through the road as well as have enough physical fitness. Next to the fire road, the longest path came in view which takes a very long time to cover. The south loop of the track is one of the most exciting and challenging part of the whole journey, so is the north loop.

As the main course of the challenge, the Altura Whinlatter MTB Challenge was designed in a new format this year with a new trail; the Quercus Trail. Just like the rest of the tracks, this one is also challenging and fun to the riders. This single track puts some exciting complementation to the cyclists along with the thrilling long climb.

Whinlatter MTB Challenge has taken a special place among the British cyclists because of its wonderful nature. Earlier this year, the contest was held in March and Ben Mossman took the first position, taking only one hour and forty seven minutes to complete it.

The Whinlatter MTB Challenge is open to all for participating. There is normally no restriction. However, there are some rules about age and cycling experience. But they are not very difficult to cover. You will get the information about the next Whinlatter MTB Challenge in 2011 on their website as well as the rules and form for application.
