Scott Scale 29 Comp Mountain Bike

Scott Scale 29 Comp Mountain Bike Review

The Scott Scale 29 Comp is this manufacturer’s most affordable mountain bike within this product family. Although it is built to bring a smile to the face of riders on a budget, it also offers a surprisingly broad selection of quality components, all equipped on an alloy frame which is light, stiff and as strong as a hard tail mountain bike should be.

The Scott Scale 29 Comp is built to give you the best of both worlds when it comes to handling and comfort. You will definitely feel like you are in touch with the trail beneath you and be confident in your ability to turn quickly and have the bike back you up with an immediate response. However, while some of the cheaper bikes of this size and style can be less than forgiving over rougher ground, the Scott Scale 29 Comp is able to compensate for the ups and downs of rocky ground rather well. This not only makes it comfortable enough for travelling long distances but also gives the whole thing a solid, planted feel.

Scott Scale 29 Comp Specifications

At the front, the Suntour shock gives you 100mm of travel to help add a little flex to the otherwise rock-solid frame. The rigidity of the rear helps to make the riding experience feel fun and fast, encouraging you to give it all you have got in the uphill climbs and making sure that you can pull away from the competition when the time is right. The inclusion of Tektro Draco hydraulic disc brakes means that you do not have to let the speed of the bike get out of your control and the 180mm rotor on the front is a particularly welcome addition that pays testament to the quality of the bike as a whole.

A mishmash of Shimano components work together to create the 27 gears available on the Scott Scale 29 Comp and although there is a lack of consistency here on paper, you will not notice any discrepancies when you are out and about on the bike. The hard wearing Alex XC-49 rims are coupled with the Rocket Ron tyres from Schwalbe. The latter components may not be the grippiest on the market, but they are definitely faster over the flat and the relatively compact position in which the bike encourages the rider to sit will let you squeeze every last ounce of ability out of these tyres.

The bold red colouring on the Scott Scale 29 Comp’s frame is tempered with white on the fork, saddle and grips. It is undeniably a striking bike which goes for visual flare in a market that is often packed with darker or more basic-looking designs. As a whole, it is a mountain bike which has a modest price point but makes the most out of what is available to it. While it may not be a hardcore racer like some of its peers, it makes up for being less specialised by offering you a great everyday platform for performance on the road or off it.
