Trek Skye 2011 Women's Mountain Bike

Trek Skye Overview

The Trek Skye is a perfect beginner’s mountain bike designed specifically for women. Just because it is aimed at amateurs does not mean it has been created in an amateurish way. There is plenty to like about this affordable bike, from its aluminium frame and hardtail set up to the SR Suntour front fork. It is light so if your legs are just building up then you will not be weighed down and it is also ready for the rough and tumble of off road use, although you may find yourself taking it for a spin in your local area rather than saving it only for when the countryside comes calling.

The Trek Skye has the same capabilities as its male-oriented sibling, the Trek 3500. Therefore, you get a well-designed frame, which is set up for female riders, components from big names like Shimano and Bontrager and a suitable style which makes the whole package look capable without being overbearing. As many people will use the bike for general travel in their local area it is actually a benefit to have a hardtail set up as this keeps the weight low and allows for better handling and speed over short distances. If you do choose to go off road then the suspension on the front fork will soften the blows and make for a smoother ride.

The Trek Skye is a simple grey in colour, which is a refreshing choice for a women’s bike, as many similar cycles aimed at females can be a little bright. You can see feminine touches on the fork and grips where pink is present, but this is just little bits of detailing that add to the overall look of the bike. Due to its price, the Trek Skye might be perceived as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, but for those who want a solid bike with longevity and performance at its core it is still more than capable of providing support.
