Scotland has some fine road routes. It is also an outstanding place for mountain bikes. However, it also has a wide selection of BMX bike parks. Most are provided by local town councils although there are some privately funded parks.
Evolution Skatepark is an outstanding park situated in Stevenston, Ayrshire. Their slogan is to not follow the path ahead, but to go where there’s no path and leave a trail. Nice. This slogan shows its capacity to innovate and this is nowhere seen better than in the design of their Evolution Skatepark. Unlike some other skateparks, it allows skateboarding, inline skating, and BMX bikes all together in one park. There is a picture gallery of cool folk doing their cool stuff – as my Dad would say!
There is even an Evolution Shop where you can buy BMX and Skate stuff. The Evolution guys claim this park to be the UK’s biggest, outdoor, fully monitored, concrete park, and whilst there may be some counter-claimants, it sure is fun. There are no distinctions made on the basis of age, race, gender, or social status. It is a prime gathering spot for all types of people engaged in all types of extreme sports. It is easy to find and most importantly, they make it very easy for anyone to find it or join in. It is very democratic, open to the public, and full of people that are more than ready to get actively involved in the park.
Evolution Skatepark is located at Saltcoats Road, Stevenston, Ayrshire, KA20 3JR.
Aberdeen Skate Board BMX Indoor Climbing Centre
The Aberdeen Skate Board BMX Indoor Climbing Centre is another park in Scotland, and as the very long name suggests, it’s open to skateboarders and BMX riders alike. Facilities include basketball and streetball, café, pool tables, Internet access facilities, and band practice rooms. This BMX park called the Transition Extreme Centre cost over a million pounds, and was created out of a need for skateboarders, BMX riders, and rollerbladers to have a place to go and relax, hang out, and improve their skills.
