The Scott Voltage JR 20 Inch is a good-looking bike designed for kids who are getting interested in cycling. It is set up to operate like a scaled down version of an adult mountain bike which means you get good quality components, gears to use to your advantage and suspension integrated into the front fork, providing a smoother ride than cheaper, rigid alternatives.

Scott takes care to make sure that all of its bikes are able to take the type of treatment, which is expected of a rugged outdoor vehicle and this is certainly true of the Voltage JR 20 Inch. Its alloy frame is neither too bulky nor too fragile, although it is reassuringly chunky with its Voltage Octagon tubing. This even leaves enough room for a drinks bottle to be stowed in the middle so that the rider can stay hydrated when they are out and about and on long journeys. The RTC Capa front fork has a soft spring that allows for 50mm of travel. This bike also has six gears, which use Shimano components, that should teach kids how best to apply the use of gears without overwhelming them with options.

The exciting yellow patterns on the blue frame are the only way that you can actually tell that this is a bike designed for children. Otherwise it looks like a smaller version of the cycles in Scott’s adult Voltage range. Kids will definitely like the colourful design, particularly those in the seven to nine age group that this size of bike suits so well.
