Scott Speedster S50 Triple Road Bike

Scott Speedster S50 Triple Road Bike Review

The Scott Speedster S50 Triple is a road bike that has been developed to be suitable for racing and serious performance. However, it is also suitable for use as an everyday bike for exercise, training or good old fashioned low-carbon commuting. Priced to appeal to a wide audience but not lumbered with any overly generic or budget components, this is a very adept bike that will flatter your abilities and urge you to get out and cycle more frequently.

The most important aspect of the Scott Speedster S50 Triple happens to be its biggest asset. I am, of course, referring to the double butted alloy frame, which is impressively lightweight and definitely one of the sturdier, stiffer options around. The alloy tubing is formed into race-friendly geometry which will let you rush to the front of the pack and encourage you to cycle in a more powerful fashion, since it will not feel like your efforts are being wasted.

Rather than wallowing or sagging like some of the cheaper carbon frame road bikes, it feels taut, stiff and lithe. This translates not only into good straight line speed and deft handling, but also in a solid ability to take the hassle out of climbs. The only thing limiting you will be the extent of your own abilities and not any flaw in the bike itself.

Scott Speedster S50 Triple Specifications

If by this point you are concerned that the Scott Speedster S50 Triple might be overly sporty and provide a ride which might generously be called firm but honestly referred to as bone-shaking, you can allay your fears. The alloy frame is made more sympathetic to the comfort of the rider thanks to the inclusion of a carbon/alloy fork with an integrated alloy steerer. This will help to damp down the effects of the potholes, divots and uneven road surfaces that are sure to be encountered, whether you are riding in the city or the countryside.

The Continental Ultra Sport tyres are fitted to Alex Race rims. The former deal with the road well, giving you plenty of grip and feedback so that you can ride safely and quickly in the wet or dry, whilst the latter are more than durable enough to withstand impacts and the ongoing road rumble that cannot be avoided over the lifetime of the bike.

Scott has used Shimano, SRAM and Truativ components on the gear setup for the Speedster S50 Triple.

While each component is not necessarily from the top of the pile, these are brands which can be relied upon to provide a firm grounding for longevity and smooth operation. The Scott Comp brakes are adequate if unremarkable, getting the job done with precision rather than finesse.

If you want a light, agile and very affordable road bike with room for upgrades at a later date, then you will be hard pressed to find a match for the Scott Speedster S50 Triple. It does not suffer from an over-specialized feature set and is thus a great all-rounder.
